The Odiham Parish Wide review of road safety was as adopted by Council on 21st April 2026.
The report sets out a number of road safety measures which are practical and viable, some which we can implement and many of which we are now discussing and will continue to lobby for, with the next tiers of local government.
The report is a result of a Parish-wide survey which attracted some 400 responses, desk research by staff and Councillors, input from residents in key areas, Robert May’s School, Mayhill Junior School, Buryfields Infant School and RAF Odiham. We have also had expert input from Hampshire County Council highways and the Police on what is most likely to result in improved traffic management.
As ever there is a balance to be struck between what is desirable and what is possible. There are inevitably tensions between easing traffic flow, providing parking, and controlling speed.
Whilst we cannot solve all the 21st Century challenges of an historic setting, with narrow streets, no pavements and no off-street parking, we believe there are some affordable changes that can make life easier for the majority . Recent changes to the parking layout in The Bury are one such example.

Short term (green)

- Re-lining of road markings and traffic speeds on Dunley’s Hill and The Street
- Improved signage:
- Cemetery Hill to King Street – review signage to deter HGVs from Long Sutton
- West Street – reflective bollards to enhance the school crossing point
- Hook Road – review signage to direct Odiham traffic via bypass
- The Street – review signage to deter HGVs from Upton Grey and The Firs
Medium term (orange)
Those which will require a longer process (eg legal work and or consultation) and funding.
CFI
- A 20mph zone on the High Street and King Street – the full extent of the zone has yet to be determined and will be confirmed following feasibility assessment
- A courtesy crossing point on Churchill Avenue to provide a pedestrian crossing point for families living in military housing south of Churchill Avenue
HCC
- Parking review of West Street, opposite Robert Mays School – possible yellow lines
- Parking review of the Alton Rd end of the High Street – feasibility assessment of moving parking cars onto the wider section of pavement
- Parking review of the parallel parking in the central section of the High Street – to assess suitability for changing to a herringbone layout.
Long term (red)
Those which will require significant additional funds eg from a developer contribution.
