Introduction
Odiham War Memorial, a Grade II listed structure, was constructed in 1919/20 on land gifted to the Parish by Sir Gerald Mildmay, then Lord of the Manor, and funded by public subscription. Since then, the War Memorial has served as the community beacon of Remembrance, of those from Odiham and North Warnborough and surrounding areas, who gave their lives in service of the nation, or in protecting the community.
2025-2027
Over time, the fabric and condition of the Memorial has degraded. Maintaining such structures is complex and expensive, due to the unique materials and skills required to undertake such maintenance work. As the custodians of this singular War Memorial, and to ensure the continued homage to those that sacrificed everything, it is our responsibility to do so. Thus, OPC set up a working group dedicated to restoring the memorial to ensure it remains a fitting place for reflection and tribute for future generations.
In 2025, OPC funding, supported by Hart District Council Conservation Officers, enabled the expert masons, MSF Historical, to undertake significant upgrading and repairing of the Memorial, which was completed in time for Remembrance Sunday. However, this will be a multi-year project, as the scale of work required, and associated expense, makes it difficult to achieve in totality. But there is a plan, and we are delighted with all that has been achieved to date – if not seen already, do take a look. Standby by for further improvements in 2026 and 2027…..
Volunteers continue to meet periodically, to sweep and tidy the area to keep up appearances. So, if anyone is interested in volunteering to assist, please do get in touch.
