Speeding through Odiham & North Warnborough is considered to be one of the main issues of concern for residents. OPC has no jurisdiction over the highway but can take measures to support the Police and to encourage a reduction in speed. This led to the creation of a new Speedwatch group in 2021 which is run by volunteers and meets regularly to record speed in hot spot areas. Speedwatch is a Police approved scheme which aims to reduce speeds by making drivers pay attention to their speeds. Data is sent to the Police after each session who process the data.
In response to your direct messages to Odiham Parish Council, we now own two speed indicator devices (SIDs) which will be rotated on key routes through Odiham and North Warnborough. The locations are approved by Hampshire County Council but there is an opportunity to add more, subject to an assessment by HCC. The recorded data will be downloaded and high recorded speeds will be referred to the Police and can be used to campaign for change.
Along with the SIDs the Community speedwatch volunteers are still regularly meeting up with the radar device to record the speeds of vehicles and send them off to the police who then action them.
The speedwatch group are always keen for new volunteers, so if you would like to join or would like more information please email [email protected]
