Whilst the bulk of the team were hacking and slashing their way through the jungles of the Basingstoke Canal, elsewhere, others were also busy. Having given the site a good spruce up last year, Julie decided that the public bench up Dunley’s Hill – the one commemorating Queen Victoria that is well over 100 years old – was looking a bit scruffy. Well, it gets harder to maintain appearances as you get older, as I am sadly finding out!
So, up went Julie all on her own to tidy it up a bit, and what a job she did – have a look at the pics: it wasn’t long before she had her first ‘customer’ in the form of a lovely lady walking her dog.
It didn’t end there, Julie then whizzed over to our old nemesis – the path behind the B&D leading to the Deer Park – another utter nettlefest! Well, with the help of the team’s new battery powered strimmer, we soon put paid to that! It is now beautifully clear and it is now possible to walk through in shorts or a skirt without emerging looking like you have chicken pox of the legs…..
As always, it is only due to our amazing volunteers that we can do this. We know that there are also lots of unsung heroes out there in the Parish who regularly do this stuff out of the goodness of their heart, without thanks or publicity – legends all.
Next even planned for the end of July, the 27 in fact, weather permitting, so hopefully see some of you then….?
