Enter the fantastic bunch of folk who had so kindly given up their time to volunteer: Mike, Rob, Simon, Cllr Chris Dorn and newcomer to the team, James. A perfectly sized team, who had heeded the call to bring along some garden tech, which they did in spades. James, in particular, brought an absolute arsenal of gear, which was very welcome!
Such was the quality of kit, and of course the folk wielding it, we smashed through the task in about an hour. Cutting, strimming, chopping, sweeping, raking – boom!
Task complete. Now the whole 200 metres or so of path is beautifully clear and navigable. Hopefully you’ll take the opportunity to have a stroll through and to experience one of the lovelier parts of the Parish.

A very successful day (part 2)
Given how efficient we had been in clearing the canal path, on the way back to OPC to drop off the kit, we took the opportunity to use the time saved to attack another repeat offender – the path behind the Bel & Dragon to the Deer Park. Known for the seemingly voracious nettles that seem to breed there, we hadn’t been there since about May last year, so a bit of tidying was required. The bushes at the northern end had also bloomed out, and were in need of a short back and sides.
After checking to ensure there were no nesting birds in the vicinity, the trusty brushcutter came out and was set to work. Short work was made of the offending foliage and a clear channel was cut, giving clear and (mostly) nettle free access – for now at least!
A lovely lady, Julie, who “happened” to be jogging by, joined in with the tidying up effort – leading to another very successful job. It is always great seeing the fruit of your labours, and several members of the public walking past offered appreciative comments – so, you’re welcome, and thank you!
