Cemetery Meadow is now Odiham Community Orchard!
This OPC project, over a year in the planning, was planted in December 2021. 30 fruit trees were planted in what was Cemetery Meadow, just off the drive into Odiham Cemetery.
Many thanks to the volunteers from The Rotary Club of Odiham and Hook, Hook & Odiham Lions Club Odiham District U3A and the Odiham Society and Odiham Parish Council who dug the holes then supervised children from Buryfields Infant School and Mayhill Junior School as they planted the trees. There is a mixture of varieties of apple, pear, plum, greengage and a quince. The trees are 4-5 years old but it will be a while before they bear fruit. When they do, everyone in the community will be welcome to their share. Until then, the trees create a space where you can have a peaceful moment, contemplating the changing seasons. In time we also hope to add some seating.
Thanks to Hart District Council who provided a grant from their biodiversity fund and Cllr Crookes who also helped to plant the orchard.
The Orchard is part of the Queen’s Green Canopy celebrating her 70 years of service to the nation. There will be a dedication event in the Spring.
