Fantastic news!
Remedial works are planned to be carried out on the war memorial week commencing the 22nd September, which will go some way to restoring and repairing the fabric of the war memorial and to ensure its longevity .
The contactor has politely asked if vehicles could be kept clear in the adjoining area to assist with access for the works and to ensure no damage is caused to vehicles. Please contact the Parish Office on 01256 702716 or email : [email protected] if you have any questions.
Odiham’s war memorial is of significant importance to the Parish. As a community, we pride ourselves on strong, enduring links with RAF Odiham and the Chinook Force, and the families of serving personnel and veterans who have chosen to settle in the community.
The memorial provides a vital location for honouring the service and sacrifice of our veterans and also includes inscriptions to honour two Victoria Cross winners. Unfortunately time has taken its toll on this Grade II listed structure and we believe it is our duty to restore the memorial to ensure it remains a place for reflection and tribute for future generations.
These essential works were identified by a working group set up last year and this dedicated team of volunteers continue to lovingly oversee the upkeep of the war memorial all year round. See photo for a recent hedge cut and tidy up carried out by members of the team.
